Species text
Phytoecia cylindrica is a widely distributed, though infrequently recorded, longhorn beetle that is restricted to southern Britain as far north as the Midlands. It occurs in hedgerows, field margins, roadside verges and probably wood edges. The larvae probably develop in the stems of various Umbelliferae such as cow parsley, hogweed, wild carrot and rough chervil (Hyman & Parsons 1992). This species may be threatened by the 'tidying up' of habitats, as well as the loss of Umbelliferae stems to inappropriate grazing or cutting regimes. References
