Species text
The status of this species has been revised from RDB 1 (Shirt 1987). Prior to 1960 it was regarded as something of a rarity, being known from only two or three localities. Since then it has been found at more than twelve sites, including five widely-scattered places in Yorkshire alone. The wide extent of occurrence indicates Nationally Scarce. Records are widely scattered in England and South Wales. The immature stages are unknown, but larvae of some species have been found in soil or under moss, and they are probably predaceous. Adults of this genus are found running amongst ground vegetation or, more usually, over the surfaces of leaves on bushes and trees where they search for small insects upon which they prey. Tree-fringed upland rivers and broadleaved woodland seem to be the main habitats and there may be some affinity with exposed riverine sediments (Falk & Crossley, 2005). References
