Species text
The spider-hunting wasp Priocnemis cordivalvata is a local species, which is possibly under recorded in many areas. It was recorded at nearly 20 sites in Sussex and Kent during the 1980s and has also been discovered recently in Oxfordshire and S. Hampshire (Falk, 1991b). The conservation status has been revised from RDB3 (Shirt 1987). Adults are found running amongst the ground layer vegetation of sunny spots in woods, including the smallest glades. Sunny glades and clearings in woods should be maintained, and a rich and varied ground layer is more likely to accommodate the wasp's preferences and should be encouraged, perhaps by periodic thinning of trees, ride management or coppicing.
