Species text
Protapion difforme is widespread but local in southern England as far north as Warwickshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire and is also recorded in South Wales. The weevil is found in damp grassland, wetland, disturbed ground, hedge-banks and along ditches. It is phytophagous and although it has repeatedly been found on knotgrass Polygonum species, an association with clover Trifolium species seems more probable (Morris, 1990). Grazing, cutting, on a rotational basis, or some other disturbance, such as rotovation, is needed to maintain open conditions (Hyman & Parsons, 1992). References
