parasite on Odynerus spinipes
Species text
The ruby-tailed wasp Pseudospinolia neglecta ia a parasitoid of larvae of the mason wasp Odynerus spinipes, which builds distinctive nests in vertical sand faces. P. neglecta has been found in southern English counties. In Essex it is extremely rare, with modern records largely from the Chafford Hundred area and other brownfield sites in Thurrock. In addition, one individual was taken at Barling Pits in south east Essex. In north Essex, there are currently two known sites, at Stanway and Abberton Reservoir, both near Colchester. References
