Species text
Old records of the shining blue-black Psylliodes chalcomera indicate that this species has been widely recorded in southern England, with a scattered distribution north to East Lothian in Scotland. It is recently reported in southern England, north to West Norfolk and also noted in Caernarvonshire, Wales. It has been recorded from grassland, disturbed ground, coastal sites and riverside vegetation. The beetle is phytophagous, associated with thistles Carduus and possibly also with species of Cirsium. The larvae are probably root-feeders during May and June, with new generation adults emerging between mid July and late August (Hyman & Parsons, 1992). References
