Saprinus planiusculus (cuspidatus) is widespread but local in England and Wales, and recorded in South West Scotland. It is a predatory beetle occurring in carrion and dung on coastal sandhills. Because of its dependence on carrion/dung this species is likely to require large areas of suitable habitat for its continued survival. The degradation of remaining habitat by excessive disturbance of the vegetation through activities such as motorbike access and human trampling should be avoided. References
