Species text
Stenolophus skrimshiranus is a reddish ground beetle with a black head. It is Widespread but very local in southern England, living in muddy, vegetated soil at margins of ponds and streams, mainly near the coast, often among reed litter. There are only a handful of Essex records, of which only one other is post-1970. This species is rarely found inland, and its occurrence at Burnt Mills is the first inland record for Essex (Peter Hammond, pers. comm.). It was found in numbers at the edge of the pond, under wood.
