Symmorphus gracilis is a local mason wasp widespread in southern England as far north as Yorkshire. There are rather few records in Essex. It preys on the larvae of the chrysomelid beetle Chrysomela populi and figwort weevil Cionus larvae. The wasp probably nests in holes in wood (Edwards 1997). References
