Species text
The small dolichopodid fly Syntormon filiger appears to be mainly a coastal species widely recorded in Britain from Hampshire to Dumfries and East Lothian. This is a localised species, but the ten post-1960 records are from sites across the known range and it may prove to be more common than present records suggest. There are only two or three other Essex records. Records for which there are habitat details refer to brackish pools behind shingle ridges, and saltmarsh. The biology of this species is unknown. Known coastal sites should be managed so as to preserve existing natural features, especially marshy areas (Falk & Crossley, 2005). References
