Species text
Tasgius (Ocypus) pedator is widely distributed but very local in southern England, with scattered records north to Mid-west Yorkshire. Hymans & Parsons (1994) state that it has recently been recorded from only five vice-counties. It has been found in limestone grassland, coastal undercliffs, chalk downland and also found in a chalk quarry, under stones, at the roots of herbage, in moss and under clods of earth. Hyman & Parsons note that in areas of unstable cliff, large areas are required so that the population does not become isolated and subsequently threatened by individual landslips. This principal would apply to any populations where habitat would be lost. References
