Species text
Old records exist for Mudeford, Dorset and Aldeburgh, Suffolk and Falk (1991a) states that the species may now be extinct in Britain. In Israel this species has been reared from field marigold Calendula arvensis. It now seems to be becoming established with only very few records so far in the South East maybe from vagrants or introductions (D.A. Smith, pers. comm.). This species is stated to require the host plant at abundant levels. Threats are unclear other than destruction of sites rich in the host plant and the use of chemicals. Vegetation should not be cut until the host plant has set seed, when larval development should then be complete. References
