This is a very local weevil which in hyman & Parsons (1992) had only recently been recorded from four vice-counties, all in south-eastern England. Old records show that this species has been more widely recorded and found as far north as Cambridgeshire. The current record is new to Essex. The beetle is found on disturbed ground, particularly on sandy and chalky soils, but also long established grassland such as on coastal cliffs. The weevil is phytophagous, associated with species of plantain. Grazing, cutting or some other disturbance, such as rotovation, on a rotational basis, is needed to maintain open conditions and encourage early successional stages. References
