Species text
Tychius tibialis is a very local weevil, only known from southern England and recently recorded from only seven vice-counties (Hyman & Parsons, 1992). It is primarily coastal, occurring in grassland, coastal habitats and probably disturbed ground, particularly on sandy soils. The weevil is phytophagousand on the Continent, the species has been associated with hop trefoil Trifolium campestre and knotted clover T. striatum. The Tilbury Power Station records are the first post-1970 ones for Essex, with older records for Southend, Mersea Island and Brightlingsea (Peter Hammond, pers. comm.). References
