Species text
This species is usually an indoor species. It is scarce nationally and probably decreasing due to demolition/refurbishment of old, warm and dirty Victorian type dwellings. It is rare in Essex although maintaining its status, probably due to increase in recording (Gardiner in Harvey, 2002). It is found on refuse heaps where decomposition maintains reasonable temperatures through the winter, and individuals can survive outside, sometimes in great numbers. References
