Species text
Ditaeniella (Pherbellia) grisescens was known from about 20 post 1960 sites scattered widely in England and Wales as far north as Durham, and with a single record from Kinrara, Elgin in Scotland (1982) (Falk, 1991). The status has been revised from RDB3 (Shirt 1987). The majority of records are from coastal situations such as grazing marsh and levels, suggesting that mildly brackish conditions are preferred. It is occasionally reported inland. The larvae develop as parasitoids of snails, a wide variety of both aquatic and terrestrial species being attacked. Management should ensure a range of vegetation types including ditches, ponds and their marginal vegetation using rotational management where necessary. Seasonally fluctuating water levels may be of importance (Falk, op. cit.). References
