Species text
Dolichosoma lineare is a slim black beetle found in southern and south-eastern England, as far north as Lincolnshire. It occurs in saltmarshes, tidal creeks and coastal grassland. The larvae are predatory, adults are usually swept from vegetation. The species is threatened by the loss of saltmarsh through reclamation and the construction of sea defences, as well as the overgrazing of saltmarshes and the agricultural improvement of coastal grassland. Grazing should not be introduced to a site where there is no grazing at present (Hyman & Parsons 1992). References
