Essex Red Data List comment
Modern records are all from Colne Point (collected by Harvey 1991 and 2004 in pitfall traps). Parasite recorded at Crabknowe Spit. Pre-1961 record shown for South & North Essex in Marshall & Haes (1988).

Species text
The Lesser Cockroach Ectobius panzeri is widespread around the coast of southern England mostly between the Bristol Channel and East Kent. The species occurs in a variety of coastal habitats, such as maritime cliffs, sand dunes or extensive stabilised, vegetated shingle beach, as well as a few inland sites in dry heathland or chalk grassland (Marshall & Haes 1988). There are modern records for from only one site in Essex, collected by P.R. Harvey at several locations at Colne Point during 1991 and 2004. Suitable habitat on the Essex coast is extremely limited, but there may just possibly be more colonies awaiting discovery e.g. in suitable habitat around Hamford Water and East Mersea. References
