On Sunday 16.10.2011 my wife and I happened to walk through Highwoods Square, Colchester.
The roof of Tesco's store forms a canopy over part of the square shielding the large widows which look out over it. This is a twentyfour hour store, highly illuminated and always attracts insects. Looking up at the canopy we we interested to see green lacewings (species not identified) occupying every crevice along the entire length of the canopy. There must have been in the region of 100-150 resting there.
Later that day we visited the Lidel's store at Dovercourt where we found the same insects in similar circumstances.
I have never seen these insects in such numbers before.
